Coach: Kim Kirk
Last year: After finishing one game short of the state tournament two years ago, the Mariners finished 1-19 overall and 1-11 in the Northwest Conference last year. ... The lone win was a 40-34 win over Sedro-Woolley.
Players to watch: Maddy Bryan (sr., forward); Devin Grahn (jr., guard); Madison MacPhee (so., post)
Outlook: The Mariners undoubtedly had a rebuilding year last season. Sehome followed up four straight district tournament appearances with a 1-19 season. But the Mariners are aiming to get back, and it starts with Bryan and Grahn, who both were prominent figures in state tournament runs from Sehome girls’ soccer and volleyball teams. Bryan led the Mariners with 10.2 points per game last year. “Maddy and Devin bring a competitive side every day to practice. They raise the bar for us,” Kirk said in a phone interview. “That’s the key — being competitive.” Sehome is a team full of guards and lack the size other teams have, but MacPhee does her best to fill in as a strong post player at 5-foot-10.
