Meridian’s boys’ basketball team defeated Blaine 62-54 on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Blaine.
The Trojans’ Nick Rautenberg led the game with 22 points and Alex Martin added 18. Sean Herrig and Anthony Ball both led the Borderites with 11 points apiece.
“Nick was big for us off the bench, he brings a motor I wish everyone brought to the game,” Meridian coach Shane Stacy said in a phone interview.
Blaine started off slow in the first quarter, outscored by Meridian 22-11, but came out strong in the third quarter to cut the Trojan lead.

“We were flat coming out of the gate,” Blaine coach Shaun Pile said in a phone interview. “We took better shots on offense in the second half and were able to climb back in it, we just couldn’t get over the hump.”
Meridian will face an Australian team next at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, at Meridian. Blaine will travel to face Ferndale at 7:15 on Tuesday, Dec. 9, in their next game.
