Gimmaka scores 22 to lead Pioneers over Blaine

Nooksack Valley’s girls’ basketball team rallied behind Emelia Gimmaka’s 22 points for a 64-51 win over Blaine on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Blaine.

Breanna Chau led the Borderites with nine points.

Katrina Gimmaka added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Pioneers.

“I think we did a good job finding the open person, and Emelia ended up getting the ball,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. “She was hitting some from outside and inside.”

Payton Linville had just three points for the Pioneers, but contributed some great defense guarding Blaine’s Mandy Hayes, Wichers said. Hayes had eight points for the Borderites.

Blaine plays next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at home against Meridian. Nooksack Valley takes on Squalicum at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at home.
