Lynden’s Hastings commits to play basketball at Cal Poly Pomona

Lynden’s all-state senior big man Scott Hastings has committed to play men’s basketball at Cal Poly Pomona next year, according to a report by KPUG 1170 radio on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Hastings was selected the Northwest Conference MVP and The Bellingham Herald’s Player of the Year after averaging 13.9 points per game as a junior, including 16.7 points per game in three games at the Class 2A State Tournament in Yakima, where he helped the Lions push defending state champion Pullman to overtime in the state title game.

He also used his 6-foot-7 frame to average near double-digit rebounds last winter, and was a first-team Associated Press all-state selection.

According to the KPUG report, Hastings will sign his National Letter of Intent on Nov. 12, the first day of the early signing period for basketball.

Cal Poly Pomona participates in the NCAA Division II California Collegiate Athletic Association, where it has won conference titles the past two years and four of the past seven years. The Broncos also won a Division II national championship in 2010.
