Seahawks’ Writer stops Borderites

Blaine’s softball team ran into a hot pitcher in a 15-0 Northwest Conference loss in four innings to Anacortes on Thursday, April 30, at Pipeline Fields.

Anacortes’ Brooke Writer struck out seven Borderites and allowed one hit.

Lyric Berry was 1 for 2 for Blaine.

“(Writer) was lights out. She threw heat and they hit the ball,” Blaine coach Alisa Burk said in a phone interview. “I made sure the girls knew that this is one of the best pitchers they will face and a lot of teams will struggle against her. But they should know that when there is speed coming at you, you just have to make good contact. We had some good hits, Lexi Greguski smoked one at the third baseman, who made a great catch.”

Blaine looks for a win at 4 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Ferndale.
