Squalicum’s hot first inning leads to 10-1 victory

Squalicum’s baseball team scored five runs in the first inning en route to its 10-1 victory against Meridian on Monday, April 27, at Meridian High School.

Carter Nickelson went 2 for 3, Kyle Little went 2 for 4 and David Stealy went 2 for 4 to lead the Storm at the plate. Brady Moore went 1 for 4 and Simon Burkett went 1 for 2 for the Trojans.

“The difference in the game was we made four errors and (Squalicum) made 0,” Meridian coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. “They’re a good hitting team and capitalized on the errors. We never rebounded from that.”

Squalicum will take on Ferndale next at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Joe Martin Field. Meridian will play Anacortes next at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, on the road.
