Golden Eagles’ rally big for comeback

Ferndale’s softball team rallied back from a 6-3 deficit in a big way, taking a 20-6 Northwest Conference win in five innings on Tuesday, April 21, at Sedro-Woolley.

Drew Westford hit for the cycle, going 4 for 5 with four RBI, just one day after Lauren Maley was a home run away from completing the cycle.

Amanda Baker was also 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and a walk.

“We had a bit of a slow start,” Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview. “We came out a bit off and then pulled it together. Drew was very happy, that’s a hard thing to do. It was in everyone’s minds after yesterday.”

Maley earned the win in the circle, striking out six Cubs and walking one. Only two of the six runs were earned.

Ferndale hosts Anacortes at 4 p.m. Friday, April 24, at home.
