Nooksack Valley’s baseball team committed eight errors in a 6-1 Northwest Conference loss to Burlington-Edison on Thursday, April 16, at home.
The Pioneers’ Cole Mattice, Noah Rawls and Michael Johnson combined for six strikeouts in seven innings of work on the mound and just two earned runs. Mattice took the loss to fall to 1-3 for the season.
“This is the first game that I think we actually fell apart,” Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. “We didn’t come out prepared. We weren’t ready to go for whatever reason. We just had a lot of errors, but pitched well enough to get a win.”
The Pioneers had an early chance to take the lead with the bases loaded in the first inning, but stranded all four. Ryan Gelwicks, Tanner Myhre and Casey Bauman each had a hit for the Pioneers. Myhre scored the team’s only run.
