The Lummi baseball team’s patience at the plate paid off in a 9-6 Northwest 1B League win over Lopez on Thursday, April 16, at Lummi.
Dashawn Lawrence drew four walks and scored a run each time he was on base for the Blackhawks, and Kavarez Lane was 1 for 1 with three walks and three runs. Hank Hoskins was also the beneficiary of patient at-bats, drawing three walks. Hoskins scored and stole a base twice.
“We took advantage of a lot of walks, had a few steals in there and got ourselves in position to take advantage of the hits we did get,” Lummi coach Jim Sandusky said in a phone interview. “A couple of the five hits we did get were two-RBI hits.”
Jonathan Casimir earned the win, coming on to pitch three innings in relief of starter Hank Hoskins.
Lummi plays next at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at home against La Conner.
