Sehome’s baseball team tied the game up 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning and scored three in the top of the eighth to get the 5-2 win against Nooksack Valley on Tuesday, April 14, at Nooksack Valley High School.
Jake Albert earned the win for the Mariners and Taylor Gardner received the loss for the Pioneers.
“(Nooksack Valley) scored two runs off the bat and (Ryan) Gelwicks shut us down,” Sehome coach Gary Hatch said in a phone interview. “The game was a lot closer than the final score.”
Leif Anderson go the lead-off hit in the eighth and stole second base and Aaron Nichols got the sacrifice fly and ultimately the game-winning RBI after Anderson reached third base.
Nooksack Valley’s Gelwicks went 2 for 4 with a double, Curtis Handy went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Cole Mattice went 2 for 3 at the plate. Sehome’s Kealohi Grondin went 2 for 5 with two RBI, Felix Zavisubin went 1 for 4 with an RBI, Leif Anderson went 1 for 2, and Owen Wright 1 for 5.
“It was a great game,” Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. “Well pitched and well hit.”
