Pitching leads Pioneers over Storm

Nooksack Valley’s softball team got a solid pitching performance from Alexis Pike and Olivia Berkan to earn a 12-3 win over Squalicum on Tuesday, April 14, at Nooksack Valley in a Northwest Conference game.

Pike struck out four Storm batters in the circle and only allowed one hit in three innings of work. Berkan came in and finished out the game for the Pioneers, also giving a big 2-for-3 contribution at the plate, including two RBI, a double and a home run.

“Both pitchers gave us strong performances,” Nooksack Valley coach Tom Harmon said in a phone interview. “It was nice to have htem both throw strong and be comfortable with their pitches.”

On the Storm’s side, Hailey Linville was 2 for 3 with a double to lead the offense, and Mikayla Poirier took the loss. Poirier kept the Pioneers off-balance, Harmon said.

Nooksack Valley plays next at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Janicki Fields against Sedro-Woolley. Squalicum plays at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Burlington-Edison.
