Poor defense sends Lynden Christian to loss

Lynden Christian’s softball team got its offense started, but the defense couldn’t follow suit in a 12-2 loss in five innings to Anacortes on Monday, April 13, at Daniels Field in Anacortes in a Northwest Conference game.

The Lyncs’ Allison Smit clubbed a pair of doubles as she went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Avery Dykstra was also 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

LC committed five errors, while Anacortes was flawless defensively.

“Just coming off spring break our brains were halfway functioning on offense, and not functioning on defense,” Lynden Christian coach Mitch Moorlag said in a phone interview. “We just didn’t play up to our expectations. Anacortes was making all the plays expected of them, and we respect that and have to say that is how we want to play.”

Lynden Christian gets a chance to bounce back when it hosts La Conner in a nonconference game at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at home.
