Ryan Gelwicks struck out 10 Cubs as the Nooksack Valley baseball team earned a 3-0 Northwest Conference win on Tuesday, April 7, at Janicki Fields.
Gelwicks got the complete game shutout with only four walks and three hits allowed. He also went 1 for 2 at the plate.
“We played well defensively. We didn’t make errors, didn’t walk a lot and made them put the ball in play,” Nooksack Valley coach Scott Gelwicks said in a phone interview. “(Ryan) was hitting his spots. His curve was working really well, and when that happens he’s really tough. It’s a matter of throwing the first strike consistently.”
Curtis Handy also went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI to lead the Pioneers on offense. Tanner Myhre was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Taylor Gardner was 1 for 4 with a run scored.

“Handy having two RBI really helped out,” Gelwicks said. “That was a big clutch hit to give us a lead.”
Nooksack Valley looks to keep rolling in a 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, game at Cashmere.
