Mountaineers total 43 runs in doubleheader sweep

Mount Baker only allowed one hit in a doubleheader where both games only went four innings as Mount Baker beat Soap Lake 23-0 and 20-0 on Saturday, April 4, at Soap Lake.

Aleks Toivola got the win in the first game, a one-hitter, and Kaylea Sleveland, Tara Chambers and Erica Brown combined for a no-hitter in the second game.

“We just did a good job throwing strikes,” Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. “They were probably a little over matched, but our girls stayed focused and a lot of young girls got to play.”

Jordan Miles led the Mountaineers in the first game at the plate, going 1 for 2 with a triple and five RBI. Freshman Marlee Polanco hit the first home run of her young career in the second game, going 1 for 2 with four RBI.

Emily Yost was 3 for 4 on the day with seven RBI and two doubles, and Aleks Toivola was 3 for 4 with three doubles and four RBI in the doubleheader.

Mount Baker has a short break before it resumes Northwest Conference play at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Lynden.
