Borderites hitters baffled in loss

Blaine rallied in the final inning, but it ended up being just a little too late as the Borderites’ baseball team suffered a 7-4 non-conference loss to White River on Saturday, April 4, at Pipeline Fields.

Jalen Kortlever led the Borderites on offense, going 2 for 4 at the dish.

“They put up a bit of a fight in the seventh, but we just ran into a really good pitcher who had our number,” Blaine coach Larry Hoffman said in a phone interview. “He had a nice breaking ball he could throw for strikes.”

The Borderites were solid defensively, not giving up a single error.

“We struck out 12 times and anytime 12 of 21 outs are strikeouts, you probably won’t win,” Hoffman said. “We didn’t make the adjustments we needed to (at the plate), which we have to work on.”

Blaine hosts Burlington-Edison at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Pipeline Fields.
