Mountaineers bats on fire in doubleheader

The sun was out and the bats were hot for Mount Baker’s softball team in two wins against Cascade (Leavenworth) on Friday, April 3, at Cascade High School.

Baker won 16-1 and 21-0 in back-to-back games.

Aleks Toivola struck out seven over both games. She pitched a complete game in the first outing and threw three no-hit innings in the second contest, improving her record to 6-1.

She also was connecting at the plate, hitting three homers on the day, including a bases-loaded, two-out grand slam in the second game. Emily Yost also had three homers while Lacey Postlewait scored six runs between both games.

“I thought we had good at bats, hit the ball hard,” Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. “It was just one of those days where you get a lot of hits.”

The Mountaineers play a doubleheader Soap Lake in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4, on the road.
