McCormick scores game-winning run in Nooksack Valley’s 4-3 win

Kendra McCormick hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning and later scored the winning run in Nooksack Valley’s 4-3 softball victory over Blaine on Thursday, April 2, at Nooksack Valley Middle School.

The Pioneers bunted McCormick over to second, but an error committed by Blaine allowed her to reach third base safely. Arlissa Oettel was able to hit a sacrifice fly to get the game-winning RBI.

“We were not able to string anything together until the sixth (inning),” Nooksack Valley coach Tom Harmon said in a phone interview. “Both teams took advantage of their opportunities. We were fortunate to come up with one more run than they had.”

Nooksack Valley’s Brianna Turner went 2 for 3 with a double and McCormick went 1 for 1. Blaine’s Lyric Berry and Lexi Greguski went 1 for 4.

Nooksack Valley takes on Squalicum next at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at home and Blaine will play the Alumni next at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at home.
