Mount Baker’s baseball team earned its first win of the season behind a complete game no-hitter by Colton Ranson, beating Concrete 2-0 on Thursday, April 2, at home.
Ranson struck out 13 Lions and walked six. He was also 1 for 3 at the plate, helping himself on the mound by scoring a run.
“He did a good job throwing his fastball for strikes early in the count and went to his off-speed stuff later, locating that well,” Mount Baker coach Derek Johnson said in a phone interview. “He got a couple hitters on the knuckleball he’s been working on.”
Carson Schmidt was also 2 for 4 for the Mountaineers, and Chad Cohn was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI.

“It’s a good feeling to get that first W,” Johnson said. “We’ve been making improvements since day one. We’re still not getting those clutch hits with runners in scoring position, but we knocked in a run today and scored on an error. It feels good to take care of business.”
Mount Baker will look to continue its winning ways with a 1:30 p.m. game Saturday, April 4, at home against Everett.
