Miles knocks in 5 RBI for Mount Baker in 16-6 win

Jordan Miles went 3 for 5 with a double and five RBI to lead Mount Baker’s softball team in its 16-6 win against Bellingham on Wednesday, April 1, at Mount Baker High School.

The Mountaineers’ Aleks Toivola earned her fourth win of the season and Eliza Rossman received the loss for the Red Raiders.

Mount Baker struck first with three runs in the opening inning, but Bellingham bounced back with a four-run third inning. At the end of the game, the Mountaineers got hot on offense with a seven-run fourth inning and six-run fifth inning to secure a win.

“We just had better at-bats,” Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. “We hit the ball hard and capitalized on Bellingham’s mistakes.”

The Red Raiders finished the game with 10 errors.

Paige Jacobsen went 2 for 3 with a double, Julia Latimer and Eliza Rossman both went 2 for 4 for the Red Raiders. Lacey Postlewait went 3 for 5 for the Mountaineers.

Mount Baker will play Cascade next at noon Friday, April 3, in Leavenworth and Bellingham takes on Friday Harbor next at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at home.
