James, Schemstad help Golden Eagles to 7-3 win over Lions

Matt James was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI, and Kyler Schemstad was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI to lead Ferndale’s baseball team to a 7-3 Northwest Conference win over Lynden on Tuesday, March 31, at home.

Corbin Puhan earned the win, only allowing three hits to the Lions as he improved to 3-0.

“Corbin is just a strike-thrower. He was pitching to early contact and getting them to fly out,” Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. “We pride ourselves on it being a different guy every day. Today it was Matt James stepping up with a couple of good hits.”

Lynden was led by Jordan Wittenberg’s 1-for-4 hitting performance, which included two runs and a solo home run in the sixth.

Ferndale plays again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Meridian Playfield in Shoreline, against Shorewood. Lynden plays at noon, Saturday, April 4, at Cedarcrest in Duvall.
