Lynden’s Tanna Benson allowed the first two batters to get on base but struck out the next nine and added a home run and four RBI at the plate in a 13-0 Northwest Conference win over Lynden Christian on Tuesday, March 31, at Lynden Christian High School.
Benson finished with 12 strikeouts.
“We competed and kept competing,” LC coach Mitch Moorlag said in a phone interview. “What we saw on the other side of the diamond was just a fabulous ball club.”
LC struggled early but Sam Van Loo entered the circle in the third, gave up three runs and then settled down to pitch a good three innings.

“She’s learning a lot about pitching,” Moorlag said of the freshman. “We’re definitely looking forward to, as the season moves along, some quality innings from her.”
The Lyncs take on Coupeville on Wednesday, April 1, on the road. The Lions play Ferndale on Thursday, April 2, at Ferndale.
