Sehome’s baseball team ran up five runs in the second and eight in the third to take a 13-0 win in five innings over Mount Baker in a Northwest Conference game Monday, March 30, at Sehome.
Tyler Hruby was 2 for 3 with three RBI, a double and a triple to lead the Mariners. Aaron Nichols was also 1 for 3 with three RBI, and Felix Zavisubin went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Leif Anderson earned the win, allowing only two hits. Grant Balvanz and Jesse Wardle each had a hit for Mount Baker.
“Leif pitched really well. He only had two strikeouts, but the ball was down and he made them go to contact, and our guys played well behind him,” Sehome coach Gary Hatch said in a phone interview. “I thought our approaches in the game were anxious, so we had some chases and we want to minimize those. We talked about that and it got better.”
Wardle also induced ground balls and fly balls on the mound for the Mountaineers, but the defense committed six errors behind him, Hatch noted.
Sehome takes on Squalicum at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Joe Martin Stadium or Squalicum, depending on field conditions. Mount Baker hosts Bellingham at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at home.
