Eliza Rossman struck out 14 batters for Bellingham’s softball team in a 9-0 win during the first game of a doubleheader against La Conner, and Lindsey Richard earned her first win at the varsity level in an 11-6 victory during the second game on Saturday, March 28, at Bellingham High School.
In the first game Richard went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI, Justina Allen went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Red Raiders.
“We came out and took the lead early,” Bellingham coach Rick Ellis said in a phone interview. “We made the routine plays. When we make those plays and pitchers are pounding the strike zone, we get the feeling we can play with anybody.”
Bellingham continued its offensive play going into the second game, scoring two runs in the first and seven in the second to cap off a day where the team scored in every inning except for one.
Allen went 2 for 2 with three RBI, Carrie Latimer went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI and Paige Jacobsen went 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI.
“We had people playing in different positions,” Ellis said. “They scored a few runs, but it was nice to see our offense continue to score runs.”
Bellingham takes on Ferndale next at 4 p.m. Monday, March 30, on the road.
