Golden Eagles nearly flawless in win over Mount Vernon

Ferndale’s softball team rallied behind pitcher Lauren Maley’s 10 strikeouts to take a 5-1 win over Mount Vernon on Friday, March 27, at Mount Vernon.

Abigail Bauthues was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Golden Eagles on offense. Erika Ebe was also 3 for 3 with a stolen base.

Ferndale made some great plays on defense, too, coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview. She highlighted catcher Drew Westford throwing out a base runner at second during a steal attempt.

“I think we came together with a new intensity,” Hilton added.

Ferndale had one defensive miscue, which allowed a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Golden Eagles take on Bellingham next at 4 p.m. Monday, March 30, at home.
