Lions get first league win

Lynden’s softball team didn’t have to wait long for its first league win. The Lions rolled to a 16-1 Northwest Conference win over Blaine in four innings on Thursday, March 26, at Lynden High School.

Tanna Benson was credited with the win as she struck out five in four innings, only allowing three hits, one of which was a home run to Blaine’s Mikayla Deming.

“She did a good job,” Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. “She was hitting her corners and was getting us off the field.”

Lynden’s offense had 14 hits, including a home run from Hannah Rothwell. It was Kaylee Vis and Jenna Bonsen that impressed Petersen the most, though. Each went 3 for 4.

Lynden plays Meridian Friday, March 27, on the road. Blaine plays Squalicum on Monday, March 30, at Pipeline Fields.
