Austin Shenton hit a walk-off two run-home run to give Bellingham’s baseball team a 2-1 victory against Nooksack Valley in its Northwest Conference league opener on Thursday, March 26, at Bellingham High School.
The Red Raiders’ Charlie Carmichael earned the win and the Pioneers’ Noah Rawls received the loss. Curtis Handy went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Ryan Gelwicks went 1 for 3 with a run scored for Nooksack Valley.
“Charlie pitched a complete game. He was in the zone and kept it over the plate,” Bellingham coach David Farrell said in a phone interview. “Just gave us an opportunity to win and he battled today.”
Bellingham was only able to knock three hits in the game, but the home run was enough to secure the win.
