Wolters shuts down Lynden Christian on the mound

Ben Wolters came in and pitched 5 1/3, struck out five batters and allowed two hits to lead Squalicum’s baseball team to an 18-9 victory over Lynden Christian on Tuesday, March 24, at Squalicum High School.

The Storm’s Ernie Yake and Carter Nickelson went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBI. The Lyncs’ Josh Heutink went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, Dylan Meenk went 3 for 4 with a run and three RBI.

Lynden Christian scored eight runs in the second inning and couldn’t get anything going after Wolters came in for Squalicum.

“We just had one bad inning where we couldn’t throw strikes and they (Lynden Christian) played small ball,” Squalicum coach John Inge said in a phone interview. “Wolters came in and shut them down.”

Squalicum opens up Northwest Conference action against Anacortes next at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 26, on the road. Lynden Christian takes on Ferndale next at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at home.
