Barnes gets first win of season in Ferndale’s 5-4 victory

Ian Barnes pitched four innings, struck out four batters and gave up one run to lead Ferndale’s baseball team to a 5-4 victory over Blaine on Tuesday, March 24, at Ferndale High School.

Connor Erickson went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Brady Shearer went 1 for 2 with an RBI for the Golden Eagles. Blaine’s Jared Vogee, Josh Fakkema and Anthony Ball each went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

“It was good to see that we scored a run in four of the six innings,” Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. “We were unable to separate ourselves with a big inning to give some insurance.”

Fernale starts Northwest Conference play against Lynden Christian next at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, on the road. Blaine takes on Lynden next at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 24, on the road.
