Nooksck Valley softball earns win over Mount Baker

The Nooksack Valley softball team earned a 5-2 non-conference victory Tuesday, March 4, at Mount Baker in a defensive battle.

Alexis Pike (2-0) walked two and struck out three while pitching the complete game for the Pioneers. Pike was also 1 for 4 at the plate with a triple and an RBI.

Brianna Turner was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Olivia Burkan was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a double for Nooksack.

For Mount Baker, Lacey Postlewait was 3 for 4, Aleks Toivola was 1 for 4 with a double and Emily Brandland took the loss in the circle.

Nooksack Valley coach Tom Harmon said the game was all about the defensive efforts.

“It was a pretty solid defensive game by both teams,” Harmon said in a phone interview, “so we were fortunate to take advantage of the opportunities.”

The Pioneers play next at Bellingham at 3:30 p.m. and the Mountaineers host Sedro-Woolley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26.
