Sehome baseball splits doubleheader in Arizona

Sehome split a doubleheader, defeating Niwot, a Colorado school, 6-3 in the morning and taking a 9-1 loss to host Mesa Mountain View on Friday, March 21, in North Mountain Ridge Mesa, Arizona.

Gage Bull led the Mariners in the win over Niwot, going 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Jake Albert got the win on the mound and was 1 for 4 with a double.

Albert was 1 for 2 with a double in the loss to Mesa Mountain View, and Dane Faris was 1 for 1 with a double.

“Our guys wilted a bit in the second game, but for not having played a lot compared to down here where they’ve played 15 games, we hung with them,” Sehome coach Gary Hatch said in a phone interview. “We had that lousy inning in the second game that caught us. Leif Anderson, coming off a great basketball season, had four hits today, so he’s getting the baseball gears lined up with the game. He’s a good leader and scored a couple of runs today. Jake pitched well and held down a pretty good Colorado team.”

Catcher Owen Wright caught 13 of the 14 innings the Mariners played and drew praise from the Mesa Mountain View coach, Hatch said.

Sehome takes on Boulder Creek, an Arizona school, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in Anthem, Arizona.
