Blaine’s Starcer has strong outing in 6-3 win

Blaine’s baseball team came out on top of a back-and-forth 6-3 victory against Nooksack Valley on Thursday, March 19, at Pipeline Fields.

Jonathan Starcer earned the win for the Borderites and Ryan Gelwicks received a loss for the Pioneers.

“I thought both teams pitched well to start. For Starcer’s first outing to only give up one hit in four innings, he pitched well today,” Blaine coach Larry Hoffman said in a phone interview.

Anthony Ball went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Josh Fakkema went 1 for 1 with three walks for Blaine. Nooksack Valley’s Gelwicks went 1 for 2 with a double and Curtis Handy went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Blaine will take on Ferndale next at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, on the road and Nooksack Valley will play Mount Baker next at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, on the road.
