Bellingham comeback falls short in 6-4 loss

Bellingham’s baseball team fell to an early 3-0 deficit and couldn’t quite complete the late-game comeback in a 6-4 loss to Burlington-Edison on Thursday, March 19, at Burlington-Edison High School.

Going into the fifth inning down 5-1, the Red Raiders put three runs on the board, but the Tigers were able to grab an insurance run in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.

Burlington-Edison’s Drew Larson earned the win and Brad Johnson received the loss for Bellingham.

“Going down 3-0 to Larson, who is a good pitcher, I liked seeing the way our team battled back,” Bellingham coach David Farrell said in a phone interview. “We had opportunities to push in runs, just made base running mistakes and a couple other things we need to work out going forward.”

Johnson went 2 for 4 with two RBI for Bellingham and Nate Pearsall went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

“(Johnson) was pretty motivated today and did a good job for us,” Farrell said.

Bellingham takes on Squalicum next at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at home.
