Blaine’s bats silent in season-opening loss

Blaine’s baseball team struggled to get its bats going during its season opener and took a 10-0 loss in six innings to Coupeville on Saturday, March 14, at Coupeville.

The Borderites didn’t record a hit, although coach Larry Hoffman said his team hit several balls hard right at defenders. Blaine batters struck out eight times in the six innings of play.

Cody Gobbato took the loss, but Hoffman said his senior pitched well.

“He pitched four innings, and we made a couple errors,” Hoffman said in a phone interview. “Only one of his five runs were earned.”

Blaine (0-1) returns to the diamond against Lynden at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Pipeline Fields.
