Coach: Jim Sandusky
Last year: Lummi put together a strong season, finishing the year in the Class 1B Bi-District Tournament. In a winner-to-state game, the Blackhawks lost 11-3 to Muckleshoot Tribal School. Lummi was Class 1B’s Northwest District champion.
Players to watch: Hank Hoskins (jr.); Free Borsey (so.); Raven Borsey (so.); Dashaun Lawrence (fr.); Jonathan Casimir (so.)
Outlook: Like every year, coach Jim Sandusky said the first part of the season will be spent determining which players are the best fits for certain spots. Arguably the biggest question mark for the Blackhawks will be who takes over pitching and catching duties after Lummi graduated its top two pitchers from a season ago. Hank Hoskins gives Lummi its top returner, Sandusky said, and the junior will be relied on heavily to give solid mound production. “Hank is going to be one of our main guys back,” Sandusky said in a phone interview. “He was excellent last year hitting and pitching and catching and fielding. He played a variety of spots last year.” Sophomores Raven Borsey and Free Borsey should also be big-time contributors and Jonathan Casimir is expected to log plenty of innings. Lummi will get all 18 of its players time the first part of the season, Sandusky said, before the Blackhawks determine a more concrete starting lineup.
