Coach: David Farrell
Last year: Finished eighth in the Northwest Conference with a 6-6 record. ... Did not qualify for postseason, finishing 9-11 overall.
Players to watch: Austin Shenton (jr., P/INF); Dante Check (sr., C); Nate Pearsall (sr., OF); Brad Johnson (sr., P); Charlie Carmichael (sr., P)
Outlook: After just missing last year’s postseason, the Red Raiders are hungry to make the district tournament this spring, and they certainly have the talent to do so. Coach David Farrell has 25 kids in his program and 12 of those are seniors. Bellingham brings back its entire infield, its pitching staff and will undoubtedly be the most veteran-heavy club in the Northwest Conference. Outside of the Red Raiders’ seniors, junior Bobby Cooke returns and so does highly-regarded junior Austin Shenton, who missed last season while rehabbing a knee injury. “You really have to say the experience for us,” said Farrell when asked what his team’s strength is. “Our entire infield is back, and so that’s comforting to have that leadership and experience coming back. It helps with the early stages of practice. Everyone in the program knows what to expect.” Top pitchers Brad Johnson and Charlie Carmichael return, and Farrell said he has several other options as well, including Aidan Quin, Cooke and Shenton. “We want to get gradually better and at the end of the year peak at the right time,” Farrell said. “Playing good, solid baseball is really what we want to do.”
