PREP SOFTBALL PREVIEW: Sehome Mariners

SEHOME

Mariners

Coach: Jim Emerson

Last year: Finished the year 7-11 overall and 6-6 in Northwest Conference play. ... Fell short of the district playoffs.

Players to watch: Morgan Henry (Sr., C), Gabby Gorosave (Sr., SS), Mallory Kruzich (Sr., P)

Outlook: The Mariners boast plenty of experience with seven seniors on the roster. The team will be led by pitcher Mallory Kruzich, who will be in her fourth season in the circle for the Mariners’ varsity team. As far as offense goes, the Mariners boast one of the best one-two middle-of-the-order punches in the conference in Morgan Henry and Gabby Gorosave. Both are four-year varsity players that can absolutely rake the ball. The key will be getting runners on so the duo can drive them home. “If we can get the right people on in front of them, it really creates a lot of havoc for people throughout the league,” coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview. “We have some young kids coming in that are going to help protect them.” With a strong cast of seniors and a promising group of underclassmen, there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic.
