PREP SOFTBALL PREVIEW: Blaine Borderites

BLAINE

Borderites

Coach: Alisa Burk

Last year: Finished 15-12 overall and with a 7-5 Northwest Conference record. ... Went 4-0 in the district playoffs before being eliminated in the tri-district tournament by Coupeville.

Players to watch: Lexi Greguski (Sr., C), Mikayla Deming (Sr., SS), Riley Miller (Jr., 1B/3B)

Outlook: The Borderites are feeling good about this season. They have a strong group that’s played under coach Alisa Burk since seventh grade and everything is finally starting to click. “They know my ways, they know the drills,” Burk said in a phone interview. “Now, they’re a really cohesive, solid unit.” The Borderites now compete at the Class 2A level and Burk knows that will make things harder in terms of postseason play, but Burk believes the upperclassmen have the leadership and experience to get the Borderites to where they want to be. Leading the senior class is four-year catcher Lexi Greguski, who was a second-team All-NWC selection last year, and Mikayla Deming, who will be making the shift to shortstop after four-year starter Baylee Foster graduated. “She’s got a good feel for shortstop ... and she’s a strong hitter.”
