Prep Softball Preview: Five players to watch

Tanna Benson

Lynden, Sr., P/IF

The Lions finished third at the Class 2A State Tournament and Benson was a big reason why. She finished the season with a 2.21 ERA over 123 2/3 innings while striking out 81 hitters. She also batted .552 with three homers and 29 RBI.

Morgan Henry

Sehome, Sr., C

Paired with Gabby Gorosave to form one of the best middle-of-the-order combinations in the Northwest Conference. She hit .583 with 23 RBI and five home runs. She was a commanding presence behind the plate to help the Mariners to a 6-6 conference record.

Lauren Maley

Ferndale, Sr., P

Led the Golden Eagles to a Northwest Conference title last season by going 20-4 with 174 strikeouts in 135 1/3 innings. She also hit .368 at the plate with 38 RBI and three homers. She’s committed to Saint Martin’s University for college softball.

Drew Westford

Ferndale, So., C

Combined with Maley to make one of the best pitcher-catcher combos in the NWC. She hit .473 with four homers and 28 RBI. She helped Ferndale to its first state tournament appearance and was a second-team All-NWC selection.

Emily Yost

Mount Baker, Sr., IF

After an early-season injury sidelined the infielder for nine games, Yost came back rearing to go. She hit .484 with 32 RBI and two long balls. She helped Mount Baker to the Class 1A state title game and earned a second-team All-NWC selection.
