Big second inning gives Blaine win over Meridian

Blaine’s softball team benefited from a prolific 8-run second inning and took a 9-3 Northwest Conference win over Meridian on Friday, April 25, at Pipeline Fields.

Riley Miller went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI for the Borderites. Lexi Greguski and Mikayla Deming both went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

“Before the second inning I challenged them. I said, ‘We have to jump on them early,’” Blaine coach Alisa Burk said in a phone interview. “They were able to battle with us after that. Emma Weg did a great job in relief for them.”

Weg also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Kendra Holmes was 1 for 1 with three walks and a run scored for the Trojans.

Blaine hosts Friday Harbor at 4:15 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Pipeline Fields. Meridian plays Anacortes at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at home.
