Hannah Rusnak won three events for the Lynden Christian’s girls’ track and field team on the first day of the 1A Bi-District Championships on Thursday, May 21, at King’s High School.
The Lynden Christian girls finished fifth on the first day with 15 team points.
Rusnak finished at the top of the 100 preliminaries with a time of 12.43 seconds and the 100 hurdles (14.71). She also placed first in the long jump finals with a winning mark of 17 feet, 11.5 inches. Her winning mark was 9 inches farther than Meridian’s Janessa Murphy’s second-place mark of 17-02.5.
The Lyncs’ 4x400 relay team consisting of Madison Weg, Brandy Bruneau, Brianna Bruneau and Madison Hallberg finished at the top of the preliminaries after a time of 4:09.71.

Meridian’s girls team finished second on the first day with 34 team points.
Sydney Gospodinovich placed first in the javelin finals after throwing the best mark of 110-08, beating the second-place mark by 21 inches.
The Trojans’ 4x200 relay team consisting of Payton Lunde, Janessa Murphy, Emily Brackinreed and Katelyne Zucati took the top position in the preliminaries with a time of 1:47.62.
The Mount Baker girls’ team finished seventh with 11 team points.
Natalie Smith won the lone event for the Mountaineers in the 800, running a top-time of 2:24.57 heading into the finals.
The boys’ side was led by Meridian’s second-place finish with 30 points. Nooksack Valley earned 17 team points and Lynden Christian scored six.
Collin Magnusson placed first in the 1,600 finals after running a winning time of 4:20.82, and Marcus McGuinn finished at the top position in the 300 hurdles preliminaries with a best-time of 42.65.
The Class 1A Bi-District Championships will resume at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at King’s High School.
