Ferndale loses close match against Burlington-Edison 4-3

Ferndale’s girls’ tennis team lost 4-3 by Burlington-Edison on Monday, May 4, at Ferndale High School.

The Golden Eagles’ Juliana Gholam defeated her opponent 6-6 (7-3), 6-2 in the No. 4 singles. Shelby Slaughter and Carly Bannerman defeated their opponent 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles.

“All of our singles players battled well. Three of those matches went into tie breakers,” Ferndale coach Ed Sweitzer said in a phone interview. “I was happy with how they battled.”

Ferndale will play in the Class 3A WESCO North Division Sub-district tournament next on Tuesday, May 12, at Stanwood High School.
