Boxx and Greenwood take No. 3 doubles as Ferndale defeats Anacortes 4-3

Alyssa Boxx and Morgan Greenwood defeated their opponent 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 doubles to secure the win for Ferndale’s girls’ tennis team on Friday, May 1, at Ferndale High School.

“Alyssa and Morgan paired up for the first time since before spring break,” Ferndale coach Ed Sweitzer said in a phone interview. “To win was a big deal. They played well.”

Golden Eagles Carly Bannerman and Shelby Slaughter won their match 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles.

Ferndale will take on Burlington-Edison next at 3:45 p.m. Monday, May 4, at home.

Doubles: Carly Bannerman/Shelby Slaughter (Ferndale) def. Hope Hurtado/Lali Kushner 6-2, 6-0; Emma Riedel/Cece Mathias (Anacortes) def. Sofia Chahine/Hailey Schulz 6-4, 6-4; Alyssa Boxx/Morgan Greenwood (Ferndale) def. Alyssa Vaux/Natalie Wilson 6-2, 6-2.
