Ferndale defeats Lynden 4-3

Shelby Slaughter and Carly Bannerman defeated Alex Schulhauser and Kelsey Hewson 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles match to lead Ferndale’s girls’ tennis team to a 4-3 victory against Lynden on Monday, April 27, at Ferndale High School.

“Shelby and Carly are back on track,” Ferndale coach Ed Sweitzer said. “Much sharper and on point. They played well.”

In the No. 3 singles match, the Lions’ Emily Corbin defeated the Golden Eagles’ Trina Byers 6-6 (11-9), 6-4. The most competitive match of the day, Sweitzer said.

“Trina came out in the first set down 1-4 and came back to make it 6-6. She played hard and I think that was the best match of the day,” he said.

Ferndale will play Blaine next at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, on the road. Squalicum will take on Lynden next at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Lynden YMCA.
