Sehome’s girls’ tennis team experimented with the positioning of some of its players on its way to a 7-0 Northwest Conference victory over Ferndale on Tuesday, April 14, at Sehome High School.
Natalie Knops tried out singles for the first time. The senior is typically a doubles player but topped Ferndale’s Nikki Bernard 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Taylor Harris and Andrea Zucchi were also a new pairing at No. 1 doubles and picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Carly Bannerman and Shelby Slaughter.
“The singles kids played really well. ... Natalie was one of the first ones done. ... She had a nice match today.” Sehome coach Bonna Giller said in a phone interview. “On the doubles side the highlight was Andrea and Taylor as a new combo I tried out for the first time. They were very successful against a good Ferndale team. I actually expected it to be a little closer.”
Sehome gets back on the courts Thursday, April 16, against Burlington-Edison at Sehome High School. Ferndale faces Sedro-Woolley Wednesday, April 15, at Ferndale High.
