Mariners win every game in doubles play, top Blaine

Sehome’s girls’ tennis team didn’t drop a single game to Blaine in doubles play as it earned a 7-0 win on Wednesday, April 1, at Blaine.

Lauren Smith also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win for the Mariners.

Sidney Balfour defeated Blaine’s Mandy Hayes 6-2, 6-2, Andrea Clawson topped Saskia Dolk 6-1, 6-4, and Simone Hall beat Payton Saunders 6-2, 6-0.

“Mandy Hayes played well for her first singles match of her high school career,” Blaine coach John Freal said in a phone interview, “but Sidney Balfour was just a bit steadier. Saskia played a good second set, but I think in the end Andrea had a little more power today.”

Blaine looks to bounce back with a 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, match at Lynden YMCA versus Lynden.
