Bellingham’s girls’ tennis team swept singles play and earned a 5-2 win over Squalicum on Wednesday, April 1, at Bellingham.
Ellie Iwersen’s 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Sarah Byron in No. 1 singles was the closest singles match.
Squalicum earned a pair of close wins in doubles play. Rachel and Kim Dorr were able to grind out a 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-4 win, and Lucy Cornwell and Audrey Goo took the No. 2 doubles match 2-6, 6-4 (10-7).
“That was a good, close win for Squalicum,” Bellingham coach Steve Chronister said in a phone interview of the second doubles match. “I liked how we played, and we played three days in a row now, so we have some tired bodies.”
Bellingham is off until April 15 for a make-up match with Anacortes. Squalicum hosts Blaine on April 14.
