Blaine’s girls’ tennis team got its only win from Saskia Dolk as Ferndale persevered through some tough tiebreakers and long matches for a 6-1 win on Monday, March 30, at Ferndale.
Holly Clark was the only singles winner with a tiebreak for Ferndale, taking a 6-6 (7-5), 6-2 win. In doubles play, Sophia Chahine and Morgan Greenwood dropped the first set in a tiebreak, 6-6 (7-2), but came back to win 6-1, 6-4.
“We can play better than we did today. They just went through the motions,” Blaine coach Ed Sweitzer said in a phone interview. “I think Sophia and Morgan losing the first set and winning the next two showed a lot of fortitude.”
Ferndale plays again at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Lynden YMCA against Lynden, while Blaine hosts Sehome at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at home.
