Ferrier leads Red Raiders girls’ golf to season-opening win

Alex Ferrier shot a 40 to lead the Bellingham girls’ golf team to a season-opening victory over five other teams Monday, March 23, at very wet Raspberry Ridge Golf Course.

Bellingham finished with a 244 as a team, Mount Baker had a 256, Burlington-Edison a 274, Meridian a 310, Sehome a 323, and Sedro-Woolley a 351.

Bellingham coach Brad McKay said with dry practices until recently, the change was a challenge.

“It was kind of nice to see how the girls would respond to the weather,” McKay said in a phone interview. “I thought a lot of the girls left knowing they could do better so it’s a good starting place for us.”

As for Ferrier’s play?

“She had a solid round but she would admit that she left a few shots out there,” McKay said. “She was happy with the results of playing in her first match, though.”

Emma Lochridge and Erin Wood each shot a 48 for Bellingham.

Natalie Verry led Mount Baker with a 47, Hannah Peterson was Sehome’s No. 1 with a 51 and Anna Ratzlaff had a 50 for Meridian
