Outlook: Watching any meet Sehome’s involved in, seeing at least a couple outstanding performances is a sure bet. This year, the Mariners’ throwing group is bound to evoke some jaw drops, if not for their performances, for their massive size. “They are incredibly strong,” Mariners coach Kevin Ryan said in a phone interview. “If anyone comes to our meets, they are going to stand amongst giants. They work incredibly hard and (coach) Tim (Carlson) does a great job with them.” Senior throwers Drew Norvell and Tyler Haggen both return after competing in the shot put and discus at state. They helped Sehome bring home a fourth-place finish. Seniors Austin Rosas and George Loeppky add to a group that likely could be the best in the state. Sehome is not all power, though. Ryan said the Mariners should be strong in sprints, and returning from last year’s state 4x400 relay team is Langston Engle and from the 4x100 team, sophomore Jacob Thomsen. Senior Kirby Overman, who placed eighth during last fall’s cross country championships, highlights the Mariners’ distance crew.
