Outlook: Ferndale coach Ted Genger has been thrilled with the number of athletes turning out this spring. The Golden Eagles don’t bring any state competitors back, but Genger has a couple athletes who should make a strong bid for a state spot this season. Outside a couple familiar names, the Golden Eagles have a plethora of young talent the Ferndale coach is excited to see develop as the season rolls along. Junior Roberto Aguilera, arguably one of the two Golden Eagles with the best shot to make state, returns after a strong cross country season. He narrowly missed the state meet last spring running in the 1,600 and 3,200. Senior sprinter Daniel Jones is another one who Genger believes could earn a state berth. “He has been working all winter since football was over, working on the 100, 200 and 400,” Genger said in a phone interview. “Daniel has his sites set on (state). He is one of the hardest working kids I’ve ever coached.” Ben Broselle (javelin), Carson Genger (jumps), Dalton Cristelli (sprints) and Jordan Cristelli (hurdles) highlight a deep group of promising underclassmen. Because of the team’s depth, Ted believes the team will be competitive in nearly every meet.
